Definition
Distinguishes between serialized assets (tracked individually by VIN or serial) and bulk consumables (tracked by quantity). Both behaviors live in one inventory model.
Why it matters
A skid steer needs serial-level history; a box of safety glasses needs quantity-on-hand. Mixing them in one system without distinction creates billing and maintenance errors.
